How Listening to Podcasts Got my Dishes Done

The Urban Dictionaries 4th definition* of a Chore is as follows:

A routinely task that usually spends much of a person's time and patience. Things most people hate doing but have no other choice.

I'm guessing you have a solid list of chores that you could/should be doing right now, but aren't. Laundry, dishes, vacuuming....and when was the last time you cleaned your eaves?

A lot of procrastination with doing chores comes from the pull to do something else instead. And with so many other great choices and distractions - doing something that doesn't give us inherent pleasure is something that we usually push off until tomorrow.

But doing chores doesn't have to be an either/or proposition.

I've discovered I now look forward to and almost crave doing the dishes, folding laundry, and vacuuming the floor.

How?

I listen to my favourite podcasts while I work. This American Life, Savage Love, Freakonomics. There are so many good shows out there.

And now the act of doing chores includes a pleasurable experience of listening to a great show, being entertained and learning something new.

I just pop on my bluetooth headphones and get to work. Before I know it, my chores are done, my house is clean, and I didn't once think about what else I wish I was doing instead.

So, tell me, what's your most dreaded chore and what's your favourite podcast?
